As Worlds Collide approaches, attention turns to who CM Punk will be facing on the September 26 crossover show.

CM Punk was confirmed for Worlds Collide, with the show running on the same day as AEW All Out.

The current Undisputed WWE Champion, Punk’s opponent is yet to be confirmed for the show, as is whether it will be a title defense.

Events on the recent WWE SmackDown saw Sami Zayn lay into Punk, Kevin Owens, GUNTHER and Finn Balor with the WWE Championship, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.

Whether those events will take fans to Worlds Collide will be revealed in the run up to the show, but there’s more than one name that Punk could be facing so close to home:

Sami Zayn

After the attack on all and sundry, CM Punk would call out Sami Zayn, challenging him to an Undisputed WWE Championship match in Mexico City on this week’s SmackDown.

Assuming Punk retains on the upcoming episode, it’s unlikely that Zayn will get another chance at the title so soon.

Grayson Waller

The current NXT Champion, Grayson Waller moved from the main roster recently and went off on the men’s roster of his new home, with Punk addressing the star’s comments in a social media post of his own.

Having recognized Waller’s “frustration (as) distilled and funneled into a bullet aimed at the competition”, giving the newly crowned champion a shot at Punk would be a bold move that wouldn’t achieve much should the main roster star retain. Waller’s stance is that he is above the competition and a loss to a main roster star would undo much of that work.

Jackson Drake

The NXT North American Champion, Jackson Drake has demonstrated he has all the tools to make it on the main roster and a match against CM Punk would likely cement that.

Indeed, it can’t be a coincidence that CM Punk teamed with Myles Borne and Tavion Heights in a victory over The Vanity Project (Drake, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes) at an NXT Live house show on August 15, marking the only time he has featured on the brand since his return to WWE.

Dominik Mysterio

Worlds Collide features stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT and AAA. With this being the case since June of last year, there has been a clear mix of stars as opposed to just focusing on roster vs roster matches.

That said, perhaps Worlds Collide could be the moment that redefines Dominik Mysterio. The current AAA Mega Champion, his presentation over in Mexico has been in stark contrast to what he does as a member of Judgment Day, with a past report noting the star’s frustration.

The AAA Mega Champion versus the Undisputed WWE Champion would be a solid match on any show, let alone Worlds Collide and one that could forge a new direction for Mysterio on the main roster.

Two’s Company

Throughout 2026, on the WWE Live house show circuit, CM Punk has been seen in tag team action, with many of his recent matches on the Summer Tour seeing him alongside Cody Rhodes against GUNTHER and Ricky Saints.

Perhaps Worlds Collide will see Punk once again teaming up, with the identity of that star to be revealed as the show approaches.
