WWE Reality TV Shows To Make Return

With WWE in partnership with Netflix among others, an opportunity exists for programming beyond Raw, SmackDown, NXT and PLEs.

Netflix isn’t the only partner to have a vested interest in WWE content, with ESPN expanding its relationship earlier this year, and A&E continue to present content.

WWE Unreal and WWE LFG has shown that there’s an appetite for “reality television” revolving around current and future stars, with an opportunity bring back more defunct series under that genre.

WWE Unreal

With its third season having come to streaming on July 21 this year, the Netflix series has given a fans a look into the creative process and backstage environment, with the likes of LA Knight commenting on viral clips that come from the series. Stephanie McMahon has previously commented that she doesn’t feel WWE Unreal “gives away the magic“.

It would be a surprise if WWE Unreal didn’t return in the near future to capture the stories that have led us to where we are today on television.

WWE LFG

WWE LFG teams a Legend with up-and-coming names, all of whom are signed to contracts, in the quest to find the Future Greats. Winning or competing on the series is no guarantee of stardom, as was recently seen with the recent round of releases.

With its third season having recently concluded, it’s a series that is likely to return to A&E thanks to WWE’s commitment to building new stars, with some participants performing in NXT, Evolve and over in AAA.

Total Divas

A nine series run between 2013 and 2019, Total Divas gave fans a look at the life, loves and relationships of the WWE women’s roster, albeit in a scripted format in line with the standard for reality television of that period.

Nattie, who was the only WWE star to be a main star of all nine seasons, has previously stated that Total Divas is a show that she and The Bella Twins “have never stopped fighting” to bring back. Aside from a desire to see it return, there’s been little in the way of official progress when it comes to bringing back the E! series.

Despite no concrete plans, Maxxine Dupri is among the current WWE women’s roster to want it back, throwing Tiffany Stratton, Bianca Belair, Naomi and Nattie into the mix for potential castmates.

WWE Confidential

Running from 2002 to 2004, the Spike TV series WWE Confidential was an early way for fans to get a “behind-the-scenes” look at WWE and its stars, with Gene Okerlund presenting a show that included interviews, analysis, history overviews and insight into the real lives of the stars of the time.

It’s certainly a series that could exist alongside WWE Unreal, particularly with how comparatively open some current roster members are with their lives compared to previous decades. A recent example has seen GUNTHER has launched his own YouTube channel, giving insight into the man behind the star. There’s also no shortage of opportunity for interviews, analysis and history, particularly when the entity in question is WWE.

Too Much TV?

With Raw, SmackDown and NXT being weekly shows, a plethora of specials, such as the recent Sunday Night’s Main Event, and the regular Premium Live Events, there’s plenty of programming for fans to enjoy before considering WWE Unreal, LFG or any of the YouTube exclusives (and AAA on Tubi, for that matter).

Perhaps another reality series would be one program too many, but the only way to really test that theory would be to do a limited run and see what happens (taking into account all the costs of making it a reality, of course).
