Ways MyAEW Can Take On WWE Radio

Two platforms with a similar audience, MyAEW has an opportunity to take on WWE Radio with its streaming offerings.

MyAEW was launched earlier this year, offering paid and free-to-access content and “an immersive digital experience, connecting fans with the best in-ring action, behind-the-scenes moments, and exclusive digital content.”

With pay-per-views, live streaming of independent wrestling events from partner promotions, along with an archive of AEW content and podcasts on offer and a live ‘fast channel’, the closest comparison would be the now-defunct WWE Network, which closed its doors in April of this year.

While WWE Network may no longer be an operating entity, SiriusXM recently entered a partnership that will see a 24/7 channel of content in the form of WWE Radio, including a number of existing podcasts and the Busted Open radio shows.

Both platforms, despite their differences in delivery, offer an ample amount of content beyond what is seen on weekly television and pay-per-view events, and AEW has the perfect opportunity to challenge WWE Radio in that space.

Gaming Content

When the star then known as Xavier Woods was under WWE contract, he launched the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel, focusing on video gaming and attracting fellow stars, gaming personalities and special guests to the show, which featured challenges, tournaments and its own championship.

Woods and the former Kofi Kingston have recently debuted in AEW as New Level, with the company already having its own games-themed offering. The AEW Games YouTube channel currently its at around 110,000 subscribers, with a number of regular shows among its 600+ videos featuring members of the roster as hosts.

Four months since its last YouTube upload, AEW Games would be a natural fit for Austin Creed and Kofi, with New Level being a suitable name for anything video game-related, and ideal content to fit into MyAEW.

AEW Podcast Network

Listed as “coming soon” on the official MyAEW website, the podcast network could be an umbrella for the existing AEW Close Up, but also see Hey EW! and AEW Unrestricted brought back to life to compete with what WWE Radio has to offer.

There’s also an abundance of current stars who could potentially fit into the AEW Podcast Network. Kip Sabian has demonstrated his entertaining style as a Twitch streamer, and it’s not beyond reason to envision the star and Penelope Ford bringing their charm to a regular podcast, either as a couple or individually.

Not to insist that couples are involved, but Will Ospreay and Alex Windsor would also make interesting hosts, again either individually or together. It’s easy to see Mercedes Mone stepping into a hosting role, too, with her CEO persona being a shoo-in for its own show.

A regular Tony Khan podcast, not necessarily as frequently as weekly, would be something that becomes a “must watch/listen” event, particularly with the enthusiasm he has been recognized for the business by multiple members of his roster.

Spill The Tea

The recently announced show, hosted by comedian Rachel Bonneta, may be full of chaos and confusion, but it has moments on insight from AEW stars that could pave the way to something more substantial while maintaining the fun.

Bonneta’s background as a former NFL Network television host offers something extra that AEW would be remiss to not capitalize upon.

The Money Factor

While the ‘fast channel’ on MyAEW is free to access, other content requires a subscription starting at $7.99 (plus tax) per month. By contrast, WWE Radio is available from $11.99 per month as part of the SiriusXM “App Only” tier. Then, of course, there’s Club WWE, another fan-facing service that provides its own content to subscribers.

Whether fans will want to pay for these services remains to be seen, particularly with some content and highlights being accessible, even with a delay, through other official sources.
