AEW Star Not Expected To Continue Role After WWE Radio Announcement

An AEW star is unlikely to continue her role on Busted Open Radio, with the show now falling under a new WWE project.

As recently announced, WWE Radio will see a 24/7 stream of content, including Busted Open Radio, with Dave LeGreca laying out plans for future content.

Busted Open Radio sees a number of stars share co-hosting duties alongside LeGreca, with AEW’s Thunder Rosa being one such presenter.

It now appears that her co-hosting duties will not be continuing with the shift to WWE Radio, according to Dave Meltzer who wrote about the change in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, stating:

“Thunder Rosa had been on the show, but she’s not listed in any of the press releases, and those close to the situation believe she will no longer be on the show.”

Thunder Rosa returned to AEW television earlier this year, having been sidelined through injury, revealing that she feared she would not be making that comeback.

In April, it was revealed that the star had signed a dual contract with AEW and CMLL.

No Surprise There, Then?

The press release for WWE Radio confirmed that the 24/7 channel would see “Busted Open, hosted by Dave LaGreca and WWE Legends Bully Ray, Mark Henry, and Nic Nemeth every day from 9 am to noon ET”, so it should come as little surprise that Thunder Rosa, an AEW star, isn’t likely to continue in her co-host role.

Looking at the rest of the content that’s scheduled for the station, it’s a veritable list of recognizable names for WWE fans, with the interview shows led by Stephanie McMahon, The Undertaker and Cody Rhodes among that mix.

WWE Radio was very much unlikely to feature stars with no ties to their own company, and AEW in particular, particularly with the history of counter-programming that has seen comment from Tony Khan.

Business rivalries aside, WWE has plenty of names who could fill a co-host role, as well as many who could probably lead their own programming, so it is entirely possible that the decision was made to keep it all closer to “in-house”, with its current mix of former WWE stars.

When it comes to counter-programming, however, AEW has an ideal opportunity to expand its own offerings on its MyAEW streaming service, with the same situation as WWE when it comes to potential hosts and co-hosts among its current roster.
