An AEW star has signed a contract extension while also being injured, following rumors and speculation as to what lay in their future.

Anna Jay made her AEW debut back in 2019, with her first contract signing taking place in April of the following year.

Having returned to AEW television in May of this year, Jay has been absent from TV over recent weeks, and has previously cast doubt on some of the rumors of her contract status.

Speaking on the AEW Redemption pre-show media call, shared by Fightful, Tony Khan revealed that Anna Jay has signed a contract extension, providing details on her injury, saying:

“Anna is in very good standing with us. Anna’s out injured right now. I had been hoping to book Anna in recent weeks on shows and she has an injury, and last week she was going for an MRI.

“Anna is somebody who is also in good standing with AEW and also has a lot of time left and has extended her contract with AEW. So, in her case also I see a lot of reporting about that is inaccurate. I have a lot of work, I don’t think that’s a secret, and I am not spending all my time myth-busting, and a lot of times these myths get carried away.

“So Anna’s actually extended and is going to be staying in AEW, which is far to the contrary of what a lot of the wrestling media has reported, it probably speaks to the accuracy of a lot of these reports in pro wrestling.”

Anna Jay was last seen on the June 6 episode of AEW Collision, teaming with Tay Melo in a loss to Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion (Lena Kross & Megan Bayne).

While Jay’s future with AEW is assured, Khan would confirm that he is granting Tay Melo her release.

Partners, No More

With Tony Khan confirming he will grant Tay Melo her release, it brings an end to the team known as TayJay, a relationship that stems back to July 2020.

Beyond this, though, Tay Melo is the real-life wife of Sammy Guevara, with Tony Khan sharing an update on the star’s status, indicating that he is very much still with AEW despite his recent absence from Dynamite and Collision.

Anna Jay is also in a relationship, having been dating Jack Perry since 2021, with the former ‘Jungle Boy’ also having signed a new deal this month.

Melo is a former AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion with Guevara, while Jay is yet to hold a title in AEW, ROH or any of its partner companies, giving an opportunity for her future as a singles competitor.

An indication of the future for Anna Jay could potentially be seen in her last singles match, losing a TBS Championship match that saw Willow Nightingale retain back on the May 2 episode of Collision.

In the meantime, Anna Jay is no doubt focusing on her recovery from injury, with championship opportunities something to consider for the future.

WrestleTalk wishes Anna Jay well in her recovery from injury.
