WWE
WWE’s tag team division has been in desperate need of some creative investment for quite some time, with both Raw and SmackDown in need of some new tandems.
SmackDown is heading in the right direction with the recent debut of Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki), but there’s certainly room for more fresh pairings.
Whether it be two WWE stars coming together or a pair of brand new signings, here are three potential new men’s tag teams in WWE.
Sami Zayn & Johnny Gargano
After six months lying on a crate backstage, Johnny Gargano finally emerged from his depressive state during the September 4 episode of SmackDown after being given an opportunity to challenge CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
During that match Gargano’s friend Sami Zayn did his absolute best to make sure that CM Punk lost his title, however, the ‘Best in the World’ managed to get the job done and retain his gold.
While Gargano now seems perfectly set up for a rebirth as a babyface, we could see Zayn continue to try and manipulate him as he seeks to reclaim his Undisputed WWE Championship.
Punk and Zayn will go one-on-one for the title next week on SmackDown in Mexico City (September 11), and if Zayn can convince Johnny to help him out the same way Sami tried to help Gargano in his Undisputed WWE Title match, we could see the beginning of a new partnership on the blue brand going forward.
Seth Rollins & Oba Femi
Tomorrow night will see WWE head to Atlanta, GA for the very first Sunday Night’s Main Event show from State Farm Arena. One of the headline matches on the show will be a first-time meeting between Oba Femi and Bron Breakker; with the match being billed as a decider for who becomes the undisputed future of WWE.
One star who once held that same title once upon a time was Seth Rollins, but is now one of WWE’s veteran presences on Monday Night Raw. With Femi seemingly having the odds against him in his feud with Breakker and The Vision, he may need some backup from ‘The Visionary.’
Oba Femi and Seth Rollins have teamed together on the WWE live event circuit against The Vision, but it may be time to translate that to television.
Rollins has nothing going on in WWE at the moment, so he and Femi challenging for Breakker and Austin Theory’s World Tag Team Championships would be a nice way to follow up on whatever happens on Sunday.
The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster)
When it comes to soon-to-be free agents, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens must be considered two of the most exciting names to be potentially hitting the market.
The duo, who previously had a massively successful run as The Acclaimed in AEW, are no longer a pairing, but are both reportedly due to see their contracts expire in October, unless new terms are agreed.
It’s unclear whether either or both are in negotiations with AEW about staying in the company, but it has been reported that WWE do have “some interest” in signing Bowens if he becomes available.
Whether WWE would also want Caster remains to be seen, but based on evidence in AEW, they may be better off as a pair than apart.
