4. Hangman Page vs. Adam Cole in a Texas Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship – AEW Rampage 4/15/22
From one Texas Deathmatch to another, Hangman Adam Page used the stipulation to finally put an end to his feud with Adam Cole on the April 15 edition of AEW Rampage.
Both men came in their street clothes and immediately set the tone with a steel chair joust.
Page and Cole fight into the crowd and all over the ringside area. Hangman ran Cole’s head into a steel chair in the corner to split him open.
Adam Cole tied a steel chain on the top rope and clotheslined the champion. The challenger then set up two steel chairs, but Hangman dropped him on both with a DVD.
There were exciting counters and use of various weapons. One of the best highlights had to be Cole catching Page with a superkick in mid-air on a moonsault that busted his chin open.
Just when Page looked to put Cole away with a barbwire steel chair while the challenger was tied to the top rope, he had remorse for his former friend.
Cole responded with a low blow and eventually looked for the Panama Sunrise on the apron, but Page blocked with a barbwire forearm to the challenger.
Hangman followed up with placing a barbwire crown of thorns on Cole’s head before hitting the Deadeye off the apron through a table at ringside for the win.
This encounter felt like a PPV quality showdown with high risk being made and some very good storytelling.
