Roman Reigns WWE retirement plans: Three loose ends for the OTC to tie up as he prepares to step away from the ring for good

With Roman Reigns’ recent comments about his WWE future, there have been rumors swirling about plans for the current World Heavyweight Champion’s retirement.

Previously, in April 2025, Roman Reigns indicated that he only planned to wrestle for “another year or two max” following WrestleMania 42.

Now firmly into that “another year or two”, Reigns told Complex that he actually believes he still has “a couple to a few years” of loose ends and “logic gaps” which are worth revisiting before he steps away from the ring for good.

With Reigns actively thinking about his retirement, every match and rivalry he has from here on out will have specific purposes.

Here are three potential loose ends for Roman Reigns to tie up ahead of his WWE retirement.

Teaming with Seth Rollins

SummerSlam appeared to mark the end of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ rivalry, with the OTC defeating his former teammate to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

With Reigns refusing to strike his opponent with a chair, and first-bumping him after the match, Roman completed his arc of finally letting go of his resentment of Seth, which was born from Rollins’ betrayal of The Shield back in 2014.

While Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have completed their story as enemies, we could see the duo reunite as a team one last time.

If the OTC is looking to take a trip down memory lane, it would be fulfilling to see him and Rollins complete the Shield entrance together, “Special Op” theme and all.

Passing the torch to Oba Femi

During Roman Reigns’ interview with Complex, the World Heavyweight Champion argued that Cody Rhodes is the only other star who has been able to carry the WWE banner.

It’s unlikely that Reigns would publicly point out WWE’s lack of stars unless he planned to help elevate some new names on his way out.

Of all of the stars who Reigns could pass the torch to, Oba Femi seems the most likely, with The Ruler first teasing challenging for the OTC’s title back in April.

With Roman Reigns vs Oba Femi being the rumored direction for the WrestleMania 43 main event, WWE would have the opportunity to coronate the rising star on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Crowning the next Tribal Chief

After defeating Jey Uso in their Hell in a Cell I Quit match at Hell in a Cell 2020, Afa and Sika gave Roman Reigns his Ula Fala lei, marking him as the Head of the Table.

Reigns has defended his position as Tribal Chief on several occasions, defending the Ula Fala in Tribal Combat matches against Jey Uso at SummerSlam 2023, Solo Sikoa on the January 6, 2025 Raw episode, and Jacob Fatu at Clash In Italy this past May.

With Roman Reigns making it clear that he is in the process of stepping away from the ring, it’d make sense for him to help establish the Anoa’i/Fatu family member who will lead the Bloodline in WWE for years to come.
