WWE SmackDown Live preview, October 9 2018

Tonight we will see the Big Show’s triumphant return to SmackDown Live, despite being listed at a Raw superstar.

Show hasn’t wrestled since 2017, when he faced Braun Strowman in a steel cage match. This time, Randy Orton will step into the ring with the giant to battle for a WWE World Cup spot.

Although it’s still not entirely clear what the World Cup is going to be, Kurt Angle and John Cena have already qualified, so perhaps it’s some kind of competition for the oldest competitors in the company, in which case either of these two could win.

Although it’s always fun to see someone return, I have to be honest, I haven’t missed the Big Show on my screen. He’s a brilliant ambassador for WWE and was once a real threat, but now he’s just a tad lumbering.

Still, there’s plenty more where that came from…

Remember at Hell in a Cell when Jeff Hardy literally died after falling many feet through a table? Well, he’s been resurrected rather unceremoniously to have a match with Samoa Joe.

This is another World Cup qualifier, and will indicate exactly what WWE has in store for Joe now that he doesn’t seem to be in the WWE title picture.

Becky’s dilemma

Being a champion is great. It means you can get yourself disqualified and hold onto your title, so I don’t really understand why more champions don’t just bring a chair to the match and get disqualified immediately.

However, this privilege has been torn from the grasp of SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, who once again faces Charlotte Flair for the title.

Becky got herself disqualified at their Super Show-Down match, hitting Charlotte with the belt, but if that happens tonight, Becky will lose the belt.

Will this open up the floor for Charlotte to try and tempt Becky into a DQ? Could we be seeing the fabled double turn?

All that matters is that Becky holds onto the belt forever and ever and Charlotte never gets it again. There. I said it.

The Rest

  • Miz TV’s guests this week will be Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. I’m sure that will end well for the Miz.
  • Hopefully R-Truth does something.
  • Probably something pancake related.
