The War Raiders are leaving Mexico empty-handed after losing their AAA World Tag Team Championship at Triplemanía 34.

Erik and Ivar hosted a championship open challenge which was answered by El Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr and Galeno, who ultimately walked out of Arena CDMX as champions.

With the War Raiders 106 day reign coming to an end, there are several avenues for what this team can do next, post title loss.

Here are four potential next moves for the War Raiders, following their AAA World Tag Team Championship reign.

AAA World Tag Team Championship rematch

There are plenty of reasons why it would make sense to have Erik and Ivar challenge the current champions to a rematch.

With the Wagner Brothers answering the War Raiders’ open challenge, the now-former champions could call for a scheduled match, where both teams know who they’re preparing for ahead of time.

Following a weekend of WWE championships changing hands, we could see some return to their previous owners in the coming weeks.

Challenging for the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown

The War Raiders were part of the match which saw the WWE Tag Team Championship change hands on August 24, with Tama & Talla Tonga defeating fellow challengers Erik & Ivar, and champions R-Truth & Damian Priest to win the gold.

Erik & Ivar have only wrestled on SmackDown once since then, defending their AAA World Tag Team Championship against Priest and Truth in a match which led to Priest’s heel turn.

With the War Raiders witnessing the WWE Tag Team Championship change first-hand, as well as the former champions’ break-up, it would make a lot of sense for them to return to the SmackDown tag title division as top contenders.

The War Raiders have never held the WWE Tag Team Championship, with their main roster title reigns being under the lineage of the World Tag Team Title.

Challenging for the World Tag Team Championship on Raw

With the World Tag Team Championship currently in possession of The Vision, there are several teams who are currently vying to take down Austin Theory and Bron Breakker.

We could see Erik and Ivar be added to the mix, attempting to win back the gold they last held from December 2024 to April 2025.

A move to Raw could provide the duo with the refresh they need, following runs on SmackDown and AAA.

Return to NXT

The War Raiders are former NXT Tag Team Champions, having held the title for 109 days in January 2019, only relinquishing the gold to move to the main roster.

Both stars have returned to the developmental brand as main roster stars, with the duo teaming together in NXT several times in early 2022.

Ivar also returned to NXT in early 2024 while Erik was out of action, most recently competing for the brand on April 30, unsuccessfully challenging for Oba Femi’s North American Title.

With there being a considerable amount of movement between AAA and the Performance Center, another NXT return for the War Raiders could be on the cards.

Tag Team Split

There is also a chance we could see Erik and Ivar head their separate ways following their AEW World Tag Team Championship loss.

As previously mentioned, Ivar’s singles run during Erik’s absence proved that he’s a confident singles wrestler in his own right.

With Ivar previously pushing for a Pro Wrestling NOAH run, we could see the War Raiders pursue separate goals before coming back together to reform their team.

As the likes of the Lucha Brothers and The Usos have shown us, it’s possible to thrive as both a singles and tag-team star in WWE, and the War Raiders could be the next duo to prove this.
