Show Open
In addition to the normal introduction, there was a video package highlighting the significance of the episode. It detailed Buddy Murphy’s rise through the cruiserweight ranks, and his desire to erase the lone blemish on his resume to date. Lucha House Party and Kendrick & Gallagher also saw their match promoted, as it was emphasized that both teams recently defeated Hideo Itami & Akira Tozawa, and would now battle to see who was the better team.
I was already excited for this show thanks to the advertised main event, but the hype package made it feel “can’t miss.” It’s a shame the company doesn’t advertise 205 Live like this during main roster broadcasts because it would surely draw more people to the purple brand. However, this was a good way to catch the live crowd up on the action in prior weeks, and help them to engage in the product. If that was the aim, it was effective, as the audience didn’t look as thin as it normally does after SmackDown Live.
