WWE
WWE’s tour of Mexico has seen multiple championships change hands, and the trend could continue on tonight’s Raw.
September 11 saw Sami Zayn defeat CM Punk to become Undisputed WWE Champion on SmackDown, while Triplemania Night 1 saw Los Perros del Mal (Daga, Angel, & Berto) become AAA World Trios Champions in a victory over Los Psycho Circus (Dave the Clown, Murder Clown, & Psycho Clown)
Saturday saw a rare title change at a WWE Live house show, with Stephanie Vaquer defeating Liv Morgan to become a two-time Women’s World Champion in her home country of Chile.
Title changes didn’t stop there, either, with Sunday and Triplemania 34 Night 2 seeing La Catalina become AAA Reina de Reinas Champion, The Wagner Brothers become AAA World Tag Team Champions and El Grande Americano become AAA Mega Champion.
With tonight’s WWE Raw coming from Mexico City, two championship matches have also been announced. But, is another title change likely?
World Heavyweight Championship
Tonight’s WWE Raw sees Roman Reigns defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta, the winner of the tournament to determine the number one contender among a cohort of luchador stars.
Having claimed the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk at WrestleMania 42, Reigns is over 140 days into his first time with the title and hasn’t been known for short title reigns during this decade.
Perhaps that confidence will be The OTC’s undoing as he faces Penta in the lucha star’s home territory, but there’s every possibility that Reigns will walk out as champion.
WWE Intercontinental Champion
Chad Gable is set to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dragon Lee on tonight’s episode of Raw.
For Gable, he has found a new lease of life following the match that saw him lose his mask in AAA, putting The Original El Grande Americano in the past as a result.
After being unmasked at Noche de los Grandes, Gable would speak to the fans saying that he had “learned a lot about Mexico, about Lucha Libre and the Mexican spirit”, marking a change of direction after his heel run.
With Gable back in front of the fans in Mexico, it’ll be interesting to see how they react to the star as a face. Dragon Lee will, no doubt, be the popular star, and that could lead to a title change tonight.
Send The Fans Home Happy
There are likely two trains of thoughts when it comes to tonight’s WWE Raw: business as usual or send the fans home happy.
It’s unlikely that both titles will change hands tonight, but there’s the possibility that one of them will. How the fans react to the results will be a testament to the passion that they have for professional wrestling.
Also set to appear on tonight’s episode of WWE Raw is Stephanie Vaquer, with Liv Morgan likely to have something to say to the star who now holds the Women’s World Championship. Perhaps we’ll also find out the direction for the title in the hands of La Primera.
