The Original El Grande Americano was unmasked as Chad Gable following his mask vs. mask defeat at WWE AAA Noche de los Grandes.

Last year, Chad Gable made a trip to Mexico in a video package on Raw, where he was gifted a mask and don the new persona ‘El Grande Americano’.

Gable portrayed El Grande Americano for a number of months before he was sidelined with a shoulder injury, which led to a new El Grande Americano debuting, being played by Ludwig Kaiser.

At the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble, both El Grande Americanos would come face to face for the first time, leading to what would become one of the hottest rivalries in all of wrestling.

Ludwig’s portrayal of El Grande Americano would become incredibly popular in AAA, with him being the babyface in the rivalry in AAA, while he is seen as the heel on WWE Raw.

A heated angle between both El Grande Americanos would lead to the announcement of a mask vs. mask match between the two, which took place at tonight’s Noche de los Grandes event.

Chad Gable Unmasked As Original El Grande Americano

The match closed out tonight’s Noche de los Grandes event, with El Grande Americano picking up the win over the Original, forcing him to unmask.

The Original El Grande would remove his mask and be revealed as Chad Gable, with him now seemingly dropping the gimmick and returning to his regular persona both on WWE and potentially AAA television.

As he was unmasking, he said:

“I put on this mask to go on a quest so I could beat all the Luchadores that I hated, but on that journey I learned a lot about Mexico, about Lucha Libre and the Mexican culture.

“I’m man enough to admit I stand here in front of you today not as a mask, but as a man. It pains me to say this, but with all the honor in the world tonight, I could not overcome the Mexican spirit.

“But understand this, I will always be the Original El Grande Americano, but tonight, from now on, YOU are the ONLY El Grande Americano!”

Ludwig’s El Grande Americano won the Rey de Reyes Tournament, which entitles him to a future shot at the AAA Mega Championship.

Will Ludwig Kaiser Ever Be Unmasked As El Grande Americano?

With El Grande Americano scoring the win and Chad Gable being the one unmasked, it means Ludwig Kaiser will be the one continuing with the Americano gimmick.

The question is, how long will this last and will he EVER be unmasked in the future?

No-one could really have predicted how over Americano would become when Kaiser took over the role last year – he legitimately has to be considered one of the most popular wrestlers in the world right now.
The next logical step – and one that is likely coming soon since he won the Rey De Reyes recently – is a AAA Mega Championship match against Dominik Mysterio, which could potentially take place at TripleMania.

Assuming his popularity continues at this level, it might be best for WWE to avoid any temptation to bring ‘Ludwig Kaiser’ back to TV and just let him continue as Americano until the wheels come off.
Hopefully, coming off this big win, he can be used as a credible talent on the main roster as well, as there’s really no reason he can’t be among the top talents on WWE Raw given his popularity in Mexico.

If that’s not the plan, it might be best to just keep him off main roster TV entirely instead of having the disconnect we’ve had with him being a comedy heel on Raw and main event babyface in AAA.

Either way, while it’s hard to say he’ll never be unmasked and it could be major heat for someone in AAA to do it in the future, there could very easily still be a couple of years left for him as El Grande Americano the way things are going.
