Back in 2021, Shawn Michaels took over the WWE NXT brand as the head of creative under the title of Senior Vice President of Talent Development.

It feels like Michaels could one day join the WWE main roster creative team, potentially taking over one of – if not both of – the two brands in Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.

When that potentially happens, WWE will have to look for someone who can take over the NXT brand in Michaels’ place.

Here are six potential WWE replacements for Shawn Michaels.

6. Matt Bloom

Matt Bloom has served as the head trainer at the WWE Performance Center since 2015.

Having plenty of experience from his years as an in-ring competitor, Bloom is someone who has given a huge amount of knowledge to those who have come through the PC over the past 10 years plus.

Playing a crucial role in who fans see appear and make a name for themselves on WWE NXT, Bloom feels like the most logical person to take Shawn Michaels’ place on the brand.

Bloom is someone who has closely mentored and trained every talent that comes through NXT and could fill the role of Senior Vice President of Talent Development with ease.

5. William Regal

Someone else who has worked closely with talent that have trained at the WWE Performance Center is William Regal.

Despite being released from the company in 2022, Regal returned to WWE in 2023 and immediately took the position of Vice President of Global Talent Development.

Being a scout and working with the stars that have come to the company, Regal is someone who can take over from Shawn Michaels in his absence.

Regal has what it takes to fill the role that Michaels currently has whenever the time comes for ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ to move up to a higher position within the promotion.

4. Bubba Ray Dudley

On WWE LFG, Bubba Ray Dudley has been one of the head trainers and coaches to the young stars coming out of the Performance Center.

Throughout the past decade, Dudley has worked with young talents a great deal, whether it be at his training school or within WWE and TNA Wrestling.

Bubba Ray knows what WWE is looking for out of their young talent and offers these names the guidance they need to succeed.

Also having experience working on creative for a company, Bubba Ray Dudley feels like someone that WWE could consider to take over for Shawn Michaels when the time is right.

3. Booker T

Another trainer that is currently contracted by WWE at this time and works closely with NXT is Booker T.

The WWE Hall of Famer has had his training school and promotion, Reality of Wrestling, for over two decades.

Booker T has offered the likes of Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans and Jacy Jayne the knowledge that has allowed them to find success on NXT and now on the main roster.

While he is currently the color commentator on NXT, it feels like Booker would be an appropriate replacement for Shawn Michaels if he moves up the ladder within the company.

2. The Undertaker

Another WWE legend who has moved on to a position within the company like Shawn Michaels is The Undertaker.

Over the past year, Taker has taken on a more prominent role within WWE creative first on the main roster and has moved on to Lucha Libre AAA.

Becoming the head of creative for AAA, Taker has left his fingerprints all over the Mexican promotion since WWE acquired them.

Taker moving on to the NXT brand would make a lot of sense with the trajectory he has been on in a similar fashion to that of his former rival HBK.

1. CM Punk

Since returning to WWE in 2023, CM Punk has shown a great interest in the Performance Center.

With multiple reports of Punk coming down to the PC to work with the young talent, it is clear that ‘The Best In The World’ sees his post-career there training the future of the company.

While it could simply be the former World Heavyweight Champion becoming a trainer, Punk may be in line for an even bigger role after all.

Shawn Michaels moving up to the creative team for the WWE main roster could see Punk taking over HBK’s role as the head of NXT in the near future.
