The Miz has opened up on his current role on the WWE roster, and how he wants to help the locker room become united.
This year marks 20 years since The Miz first made his appearance on WWE television, with him debuting as the host of SmackDown back in 2006.
20 years later, The Miz has had a Hall of Fame career in the company, including being the first-ever two-time Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.
The Miz Opens Up On Current WWE Role
With a number of veterans all recently leaving WWE or retiring, Miz remains a focal point of WWE television, and he has now opened up on his current role on the roster.
Speaking to Almost Athletes with Dude Perfect, Miz opened up on how he takes his role of being a locker room leader seriously, and helps everyone in the locker room feel welcome to help create the best possible product.
He said:
“My job right now as a WWE superstar is to make sure that when new people come into WWE, it’s a gimmick that I’m a locker room leader, but I take it very seriously.
“It might be like ‘yeah Master Inspire Zone In, MIZ Method, I’m the locker room leader’, but I want to make sure that when the new guys come up, they are successful in everything they can possibly do.
“That is our job to make sure they’re successful and feel as comfortable as possible, because I wasn’t. I was ostracised, I was thrown out of the locker room, I was not wanted because everyone was like ‘he’s from the Real World and wants another 15 minutes of fame’, they didn’t understand how much I loved this business as a child. They didn’t care. They were just like ‘get this guy out of here’.
“I don’t want anyone to ever feel that coming into WWE, I want the best possible performance ever, and I think everyone’s in the same boat, our locker room has mended together and is probably the best locker room I’ve seen. We play video games, talk to each other, give each other tips, we’re always working together.
“A lot of old timers hate (WWE Unreal). I love it, because it shows exactly how hard it is to be in WWE. Every single person counts, whether you’re the microphone person, lighting, cameras, every person that works for WWE matters, so we’re all trying to put forward the best product we can on television.”

TKO’s Recent Change Of Direction With WWE
In recent months, we have seen something of a slight change of direction with the WWE roster, with many legendary names such as John Cena, AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar calling it a career.
On top of the retirements of Cena, Styles and Lesnar, we have seen reports of a shift in focus to a younger WWE roster, which led to some veteran talents such as the New Day being offered pay cuts, which Kofi and Xavier Woods refused, leading to their departure.
While WWE has to always be on the lookout for it’s next top stars, gutting the locker room of many beloved veterans at once will cause a major unrest between the talent and management, as well as limiting the amount of veteran talent on tap to help guide the newer names on the roster.
With live events scaled back and some WWE stars now only working once a month on television, a lot of recent TKO decisions could end up leading to stunting the growth of the young talent, making the whole ordeal a damp squib.
