Identity Of Paul Heyman Caller At WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event

A mystery phone call left unanswered questions at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, with Paul Heyman being as secretive as ever.

The moment in question came after Oba Femi faced Bron Breakker in a match that was billed as “the future of WWE” ended with the return of Bronson Reed and a DQ victory for Femi.

Cathy Kelly would approach Paul Heyman for comment backstage, only for the Wiseman to be interrupted by a phone call. Heyman would indicate that he wanted to tell the caller everything that had happened, walking away from the backstage interviewer and leaving more questions than answers.

There are a number of suspects who could have been making a call to Heyman with a vested interest in the result of Femi vs. Breakker and the return of Bronson Reed, of course:

Brock Lesnar

Retired as an in-ring competitor, Brock Lesnar’s career ended with a loss to Oba Femi at SummerSlam. With The Next Big Thing calling Femi “the future“, Lesnar may just have a reason to be interested in why “the future of WWE” match ended in a disqualification win, and Heyman would be the first call.

Seth Rollins

The relationship between Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman has been fractured since The Vision kicked out The Visionary in October of last year. Heyman himself has also parted ways with The Vision, although he clearly keeps an eye on what’s going on in the orbit of the faction.

Perhaps the phone call could be the reparation of the relationship, with Rollins intent on picking at the wounds.

Roman Reigns

The former Wiseman to The OTC, Heyman has been a wily politician when it comes to their past relationship.

With Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, a match to determine the “future of WWE” would surely be something that would hold his interest.

Reigns has previously had issues with Bronson Reed, too, with The Vision member becoming “The Tribal Thief“, having taken The OTC’s shoes more than once.

Reigns was absent from Sunday Night’s Main Event, with a phone call probably being the quickest way to contact Heyman for the details.

CM Punk

The Undisputed WWE Champion, Punk wouldn’t have the same level of interest in what happens to stars over on Raw as Reigns would, but he could have just been wanting the inside story.

Punk and Heyman have a relationship that spans the decades, although WrestleMania 41 saw the advocate betray his client, subsequently leading to the birth of The Vision.

There really isn’t a direct throughline between Punk and Femi, Breakker or Reed, however, unless a brand transfer is in the offing and a new challenger for the top SmackDown championship is the goal.

One Name It Can’t Be

In an ideal world, fans won’t have to wait long for the reveal of who was on the end of the phone. Whether it will be a satisfying resolution will depend on just who was in contact with Heyman.

One name it probably won’t be, however, is the anonymous Raw general manager, one of the most notorious occasions when WWE attempted to build intrigue into an on-screen gimmick, with a laptop playing its part and Michael Cole being the one to relay messages (and Hornswoggle later being revealed as the controller).
