Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar faced off inside Hell in a Cell in the main event of WWE SummerSlam 2026 night one tonight, Saturday, August 1.

The match was the deciding match of a three match series that previously saw Femi pick up the win at WrestleMania 42 before Lesnar defeated Femi at Clash In Italy, meaning they entered tonight with their record tied at one apiece.

After the Mania match, Lesnar left his boots and gloves in the ring so as to signal retirement, and since then, the story has been that he did retire on that night but has been wrestling as a retired talent in these subsequent matches against Femi.

In tonight’s decider, it was in fact Femi who scored the win to come out of the series 2-1.

The match featured both men kicking out of each other’s finishers before Lesnar opened up the ring mat and exposed the wooden boards, then landed a Tombstone Piledriver in a tribute to The Undertaker, who Lesnar defeated in a couple of Hell in a Cell matches early in his own career.

After kicking out of the Tombstone, Femi landed a Fall From Grace and pinned Lesnar for the victory.

Lesnar left the ring and headed up the ramp, but came back and joined Femi in the ring afterwards to embrace him and raise his hand in a showing of respect.

Lesnar got on the microphone and said:

“Minnesota, and the whole wide world watching this s**t tonight… come here Oba. Here’s the future of WWE.

“Congratulations. This is the future, ladies and gentlemen. This is the past (points to himself), this is the future (points to Femi).”

Is Brock Lesnar Retired After SummerSlam?

Unlike WrestleMania, the focus after the match was very much on Oba Femi rather than Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar did refer to himself as “the past,” which could be an indication, but it seemed like more just a passing of the torch than Lesnar’s final match.

There is still a rumored Lesnar vs GUNTHER match that WWE may want to come back around to after it had to be scrapped from WrestleMania 40 in 2024, which would more likely be Lesnar’s retirement match whenever it happens.
