WWE UK Championship Tournament Night 2: Review

Shayna Baszler bt. Toni Storm to retain the NXT Women’s Championship

Toni Storm is an absolute star of professional wrestling. She has won titles around the world, and if I’d had my way, she’d be the new NXT Women’s champion.

I’ve never really bought into Baszler. Yes, she’s a good submission wrestler and she has a very intimidating air about her, but she’s a bit clunky and I just think there are others who could hold the title more convincingly.

Storm injured her ankle early on, and this would be her downfall. After a merciless beat down by Baszler, Storm was thrown out of the ring and unable to make the 10-count.

A valiant effort by Storm, and I just hope this is just the beginning of her career in an NXT/WWE ring.

Pete Dunne bt. Zack Gibson to retain the WWE UK Championship

Our main event. And what a main event it was.

Zack Gibson had impressed everyone up until this point with his in ring ability, and his submission move “The Shankley Gates”, has seen off everyone he had come up against so far.

But beating Pete Dunne is another matter, and Gibson came up short.

The Bruiserweight has, since we last saw him wrestle, grown a horrible ginger beard that need to go, and hopefully this was its only outing.

I know he’s a father now but that’s no excuse to have horrible facial hair.

Anyway, the match was very good, with near-falls throughout. A very fitting way to end what was a very impressive tournament as a whole.

A bitter end from Dunne to finish proceedings, and that’s all she wrote. Gibson looked genuinely distraught while leaving the ring, but it’s clear that WWE see him as a main player in their new NXT UK brand.
