While both AEW and WWE have assured us that we are not in a war between promotions, no-one is stupid enough to believe them.
While official viewing statistics will not be released until later this evening, we have got a few other statistics at hand, and it’s looking very good for AEW.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that he had viewing statistics for Playstations’ Vue streaming service, and reports that three times as many people watched AEW than NXT. AEW: Dynamite was the third most watched show on the streaming service for the day.
On Google Trends, AEW had 140,000 searches while NXT had under 20,000. Of course more searches doesn’t always mean high ratings, but it’s still a promising sign. AEW’s Google Trend numbers were actually 70% of what RAW managed earlier in the week.
Peeling back the WrestleTalk curtain, our live report on NXT got 20% more views than the AEW one, but with Finn Balor and Tommaso Ciampa both returning on the show, that is to be expected.
We’ll be reporting on the official numbers when they are released later this evening.
