AEW Star Backstage At Dynamite After Lengthy Absence AEW

Colt Cabana reportedly made his backstage return at this week’s Dynamite taping, following his lengthy absence from AEW TV.

Cabana has only had one match in AEW since March 2022, which was on the November 2, 2022 edition of Dynamite, when he was revealed to be Chris Jericho’s surprise ROH World Title challenger.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Cabana returned to AEW working in a backstage capacity at yesterday’s July 5 Dynamite taping in Edmonton.

Cabana reportedly was working as a producer/coach, however it is currently unclear which, if any, specific match he was working on.

While Fightful didn’t confirm anything, it was noted that ‘by the sounds of it’ Cabana will be around more often from now on.

Both CM Punk and Tony Khan have repeatedly denied the rumor that Punk had requested for Cabana’s absence from AEW when he joined the company.

The apparent spreading of that rumor was one of the major sparks that caused all the backstage issues between Punk and The Elite.

Punk only recently made his return to AEW TV following an injury (and everything else that happened) at All Out, stepping back into the ring on the June 17 debut episode of Collision.

It’s expected that Punk will mostly appear on Collision and the members of the Elite and Blackpool Combat Club he’s had issues with would appear on Dynamite.

However, there will likely be some exceptions and Punk will appear on Dynamite some weeks, and the Elite are likely to be absent from those shows (for example, the recent Dynamite in Chicago ahead of Forbidden Door).

While Punk and the Elite were in the same building for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Fightful reported that the two sides were “put on completely different sides of the building”.

Punk went on record in his recent interview with ESPN saying that he had attempted to contact members of The Elite after All Out, but the response was letters from attorneys telling him not to. The two sides haven’t been able to interact since then.
