WWE/AEW
The stars known to WWE fans as The New Day have been confirmed for an upcoming event, with an AEW star addressing their appearance.
The stars previously known as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were among the WWE releases in April this year, as they were reportedly asked to sign lower-money contracts and decided to leave the company instead.
With much speculation that the stars now known as Kofi & Austin Creed would head to AEW, they’ll be in the orbit of stars in Tony Khan’s company later this year.
The Jericho Cruise Instagram account confirmed that Kofi & Creed would serve as “Super Massive Guest Captains” for the at-sea event that runs from November 7 to 11 this year.
Chris Jericho would also address the appearance in a post shared on his own Instagram account, stating:
“Hello Cruisers! It’s a brand new day, and we are beyond excited to announce that @truekofi and @austincreedwins are making their @jericho_cruise debut!
“Get ready for Unicorns, Trombones, Gaming, Pancakes and so much more, as two of the most entertaining personalities in the biz, bring the party!!!! And if that wasn’t MASSIVE enough, the amazing @danni_ellexo #HarleyCameron is returning to ROCK the deck with her killer band & comedic stylings! And then add @realladyfrost & @mylagrace_x to the mix, and we have the makings of our best Jericho Cruise Oceanic Women’s Championship tournament EEVVEERR!!
“Go to chrisjerichocruise.com for all info and cabin availability NOW! Come join us for the VACATION OF A LIFETIME!!!! And Stay tuned for announcements to come!”
The Jericho Cruise, also known as Chris Jericho’s Rock N Wrestling Rager at Sea, had its maiden voyage in 2018, and features stars of AEW, ROH and the independent wrestling scene, along with live music, podcasts and Q&A sessions, with this year’s event taking place about the Norwegian Pearl.
Making The Comeback Sweeter
There’s little doubt that The New Day were an entertaining aspect of WWE programming, so it likely came as a surprise to many fans that they would exit the company, particularly in the circumstances under which that decision was made.
In recent comments, AEW star Swerve Strickland has indicated that both stars are “in high spirits”, noting that they are currently “happy” with what they’re doing. It appears neither star is in a rush to make a decision, no doubt weighing up the ideal opportunities for their futures.
With the pay cut requirement being a talking point, Big E has stated that the ownership of WWE had changed in the years since signing their first deals and “it is their company, it is not ours.” This is very much the case, in that WWE now answers to TKO Group management, with a recent report noting how the parent company now approaches contract offers.
For Kingston, now going under the name Kofi, he was last seen on SmackDown back in April, teaming with Grayson Waller in a loss to WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest & R-Truth. Woods last competed in an untelevised match at this year’s Royal Rumble, teaming with Waller & Kingston in a loss to the team of Shinsuke Nakamura & The Motor City Machine Guns, with Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin having signed with AEW following their release in April.
Regardless of how they were viewed in a business sense, there’s bound to be interest in wherever Kofi & Creed end up going, no matter when it eventually happens.
