AEW Star Calls CM Punk ‘A Cancer’, Real Reason Sheamus Off WWE TV, AEW Rampage Match Changed – News Bulletin – October 28, 2022 AEW

An AEW star reportedly called CM Punk “a cancer”, the real reason Sheamus is off WWE TV, a match for tonight’s AEW Rampage has been changed, and more.

It’s Friday morning, and here’s our news bulletin for October 28, 2022 to help get your day underway.

AEW Investigation ‘Over’, CM Punk Reportedly Called ‘A Cancer’

With plenty of news about the situation having flooded out in the past couple of days, it’s been reported that the investigation into the backstage fight involving CM Punk and AEW EVPs Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks is now officially finished.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the investigation is “over” and “based on who’s back and who is not back, that will tell you essentially what the investigation found”.

Meltzer is of course referring to the fact that Omega and the Young Bucks were backstage at Dynamite this past Wednesday, and a vignette aired during the show promoting their upcoming return to TV.

Meanwhile, Ace Steel has been let go by the company, and CM Punk is in negotiations for a contract buyout so he’s on his way out as well.

In another new update about what happened backstage at All Out, Fightful Select is reporting that sources informed them of an interaction between Punk and Chris Jericho.

Chris Jericho vs CM Punk at WrestleMania 28

CM Punk and Chris Jericho competed for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 28 in 2012

According to the report, after the main fight incident took place with Punk, Omega and the Bucks, Jericho approached Punk and told him he was “a cancer to the locker room, and a detriment to the company”.

Punk’s response was said to be something along the lines of telling Jericho to stay out of it because it was none of his business.

Since the incident, Jericho is one of three names who has repeatedly been said to have stepped up in a backstage leadership capacity, along with Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. Jericho also just signed a new deal keeping him with AEW until January 2026 including mentorship responsibilities.

Real Reason Sheamus Off WWE TV?

Last week’s episode of SmackDown appeared to see Sheamus written off TV as he was attacked post-match by the Bloodline after being beaten by Solo Sikoa.

A lot of people assumed this was just because the bloke deserves a break after the incredible matches he’s been having recently, which he does, but there’s something more to it as well.

It turns out that, judging by Instagram, Sheamus and his fiancée will be getting married in the coming days too, which is likely an explanation as to why he’s being given time off.

Sheamus and Gunther slugging it out

Sheamus has been having banger after banger after banger after banger after banger recently including two singles matches with Gunther

His Brawling Brutes teammates Ridge Holland and Butch will be looking for revenge on the Bloodline tonight as they’ve been booked for a tag match against Sikoa and Sami Zayn,

Also set for SmackDown is Roman Reigns returning, Ronda Rousey defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against a mystery opponent, and Legado Del Fantasma taking on Hit Row and a mystery partner in a six-man tag match.

It still hasn’t been announced or reported officially anywhere, but with WWE travelling to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel on November 5, and no listing for a live November 4 SmackDown on WWE’s live events page, it looks like tonight’s SmackDown will be a double-taping also including the show that will air next week, the night before Crown Jewel.

AEW Star Pulled From Rampage Match

This week’s AEW Rampage will be airing live instead of pre-taped, which most people would consider a good thing, but it has thrown a spanner in the works for Tony Khan.

During Dynamite this past Wednesday, one of the matches announced for tonight’s Rampage was Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club taking on the Jericho Appreciation Society’s Angelo Parker and Matt Menard.

Well, it turns out that won’t be happening because Yuta was already booked on NJPW’s Rumble On 44th Street tonight, and won’t be able to make Rampage.

MJF and Jon Moxley in-ring promo

Jon Moxley is set to defend the AEW World Championship against MJF at Full Gear

AEW has announced a replacement match, which will now be a singles match pitting Menard against AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

Poor NJPW having to put up with these silly US promotions double-booking its talent all the time.

During the announcement video posted by AEW, Yuta also hinted that an NJPW talent could be heading to AEW soon.

The announced card for Rampage is now:

  • Jon Moxley vs. Matt Menard
  • Madison Rayne vs. Tay Melo
  • Wardlow (c) vs. Matt Taven – TNT Championship

Other Stuff

In an interview with Metro, NWA owner Billy Corgan confirmed previous unsuccessful discussions with WWE about the NWA airing on the WWE Network, but seemed keen on the idea of the NWA functioning as something of a developmental brand for WWE.

Sami Zayn spoke to Mirror Sport about his on-screen relationship with Roman Reigns, saying WWE’s original plan was just for the pair to interact “every now and again”, but it evolved into the Honorary Uce storyline that’s garnered such a positive reception.

Injured AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa tweeted “I thank y’all for the support, I know where I stand”, seemingly in response to comments from Britt Baker on Swerve Strickland’s podcast. Baker had admitted she and Thunder Rosa “don’t like each other” but said that makes for good TV. Baker once again pointed out how she always showed up to TV even while injured, seemingly another knock on Rosa.

Logan Paul knocking out Jey Uso

Just because I got a kick out of it, Logan Paul dubbed himself the “Tribal Thief” in a promotional interview ahead of Crown Jewel. They really should make that a thing on TV the next couple of weeks.

Karrion Kross confirmed to Mirror Sport that he had talks with AEW before he and wife Scarlett returned to WWE, but face-to-face interactions with fans made it clear people wanted to see them succeed in WWE based on their run in NXT.

And Josh Woods is officially signed to a full-time multi-year AEW contract, as reported by Fightful Select.
