CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Hechicero Pitches Title Match Against AEW’s MJF

CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Hechicero has named the AEW stars he wants to defend his gold against.

Hechicero won the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship at the March 20 Homenaje A Dos Leyendas event, defeating Claudio Castagnoli to win the title.

With the AEW-CMLL dual contracted star looking to establish himself as a top titleholder, Hechicero has now called for a match against an AEW champion.

Speaking with The Takedown on SI, Hechicero named AEW World Champion MJF, and Claudio Castagnoli, as two stars he wants to put his title on the line against.

the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion said:

“Well I aspire to the highest level as CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. First of all, MJF is the company’s world champion, it would be really great to face him.

“Also, Claudio Castagnoli, it would be great to have a rematch against him because he did so well. 

“I had two matches before with him in CMLL and the last time I also faced Mark Briscoe, so I really want to face the top of AEW because if we see the AEW roster, there are the greatest wrestlers that I really want to face for the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion.”

Hechicero made his AEW debut in 2024, with it confirmed by Tony Khan in January that he has a dual deal with the company and CMLL.

Other stars signed to both the US and Mexico based promotions include Persephone and Mascara Dorada.

Konosuke Takeshita is signed to multiple of AEW’s partner promotions, having deals with NJPW and DDT-Pro in addition to AEW.

AEW talent is often featured on shows presented by its partner promotions, with there reportedly being talk of a couple of stars from the company competing in this year’s NJPW G1 Climax tournament.

With all of this crossover, it would make sense for more CMLL World Heavyweight Title matches to take place in AEW rings in the future.
