AEW’s Speedball Mike Bailey Wants To Challenge For Jetspeed Tag Partner Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship, Says He Has To ‘Earn It’

AEW star Speedball Mike Bailey has addressed the possibility of challenging for his Jetspeed tag-team partner Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship.

Kevin Knight won the TNT Title at the April 13 Dynasty pay-per-view, winning the vacant title in a Casino Gauntlet match following Kyle Fletcher vacating the gold due to injury.

In the post-show media scrum, Knight was asked about the dynamic within his team with Mike Bailey, now that one of them holds singles gold.

“Me and Speedball have faced off plenty of times in the past, so this is a team win for me and Speedball. I knew him before I got here, and we’ve had great chemistry. He only wants the best for me, I only want the best for him.

“I would love to defend this against my tag-team partner, if you (Tony Khan) would allow it, if we could set something up, because me and Speedball, we bring the best out of each other.

“Any time we’re in there together, it’s like brothers just going at it, cousins just going at it, so we’d love to go at it.”

Mike Bailey has now reacted to these comments, taking to Twitter to state that he feels he has to earn the opportunity to challenge for Knight’s TNT Championship.

Re-sharing a clip from the press conference, Bailey wrote:

I’d love a shot at Kevin Knight’s TNT Championship but I’ve got to earn it. Our goal remains the same: Jetspeed wants all the gold.

Knight responded to this, simply writing:

“Let’s get it😤”

For this match to happen, Knight will have to successfully defend his gold at AEW Dynamite: Spring BreakThru, where he will face Claudio Castagnoli with gold on the line.

As was referenced ahead of Knight’s comments in the post-show media scrum, it is very common across pro-wrestling for dissension to infiltrate a tag-team after one member wins a championship.

Friends-to-enemies storylines in pro-wrestling do make a lot of sense, as if two stars have enough chemistry to gel as a tag-team, they’d be able to work well together as opponents.

With Knight and Bailey previously facing off in both TNA Wrestling and NJPW in 2023, it seems inevitable that the duo will battle once again in AEW. Whether they do so as friends or enemies, and if the TNT Title will be on the line, remains to be seen.
