UPDATE: Tony Khan has announced that Jeff Jarrett has answered the open challenge.
A championship match has been added to tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite (September 27) as Tony Khan has said a champ was just medically cleared.
Tony Khan took to Twitter to share that there would be an open challenge tonight on AEW Dynamite for the AEW International Championship.
Khan wrote:
“Last week at #AEWDynamite Grand Slam, @ReyFenixMx won the International Title.
Both Fenix + former champ @JonMoxley were injured in the bout.
“AEW Doctors are unable to clear Mox tonight, but moments ago they DID clear Fenix, who will defend his title in an Open Challenge TONIGHT!”
On last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley dropped the International Title to Rey Fenix after Moxley had suffered a concussion during the pre-match brawl.
The original plan had been for Moxley to retain the title, so the decision made on the fly for Fenix to win has changed whatever the plans were for tonight, as well as meaning a planned match at WrestleDream has been canceled – read more about that at this link.
