AEW Star Called Out By Top International Name

AEW Star Called Out By Top International Name AEW

A popular AEW star and NJPW champion has been called out by a notable name at STARDOM’s Sunshine 2023 event on June 25.

While Willow Nightingale’s immediate focus will be on challenging for Toni Storm’s AEW Women’s Championship at Forbidden Door, Nightingale certainly has a target on her back after winning the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.

Following Giulia, Mai Sakurai and Thekla’s successful defence of their Artist of STARDOM championships against Mayu Iwatani, Hazuki and Koguma in a cage match, Giulia took the microphone to call out Nightingale.

Giulia said (per Dark Puroresu Flowsion):

“NJPW Strong has a show. I wanted to challenge myself. I want to go overseas.

“So here I declare. New Japan! Bring Giulia to the STRONG show! Call Willow Nightingale there!”

While there was initially belief from some that STARDOM would be involved with this year’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view event, nothing had officially been announced.

AEW President Tony Khan was asked about this at the recent Forbidden Door media call and expressed that he wishes to work with the promotion in the future, however he cited their Sunshine event as the reason for things not working out this year.

While STARDOM’s presence is sure to be missed at the June 25 event, we learned on this week’s Collision (June 24) that a previously unannounced top NJPW star will be competing at the show, teaming with Darby Allin and Sting to take on Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki.
