Tony Khan has addressed no STARDOM talent being booked for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
Leading up to Forbidden Door, various reports and rumors indicated that All Elite Wrestling and STARDOM were in talks for talent from the Joshi promotion to appear on the June 25 event.
However, STARDOM also have their own show titled, “STARDOM Sunshine 2023,” which will take place in Japan on the same date as the AEW and NJPW joint show.
With nearly the full lineup for this Sunday’s event announced on the June 21 episode of AEW Dynamite, it appears the door has been closed for this year on STARDOM talent being on the show.
During the Forbidden Door media call on Thursday afternoon, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about STARDOM competitors not appearing on the super-show. He said:
“When we lined up the event, I learned that STARDOM had scheduled an event the same day as Forbidden Door…”
“They found it very challenging to have participation in this show, and I completely understand that as a promoter. In the future I would like to work with STARDOM more … I understand there is interest from STARDOM in working together. The key is finding dates.”
STARDOM Sunshine 2023 will feature former WWE star KAIRI, two title matches and will be headlined by a Loser Leaves Unit 12-woman steel cage match between Queen’s Quest and Oedo Tai.
Meanwhile, AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will be headlined by Kazuchika Okada vs. Bryan Danielson in a first time ever dream match.
Also, Kenny Omega will defend the IWGP United States Championship against Will Ospreay and Hiroshi Tanahashi will challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship.
