What Happened After SmackDown August 25 Went Off The Air WWE

Here’s what happened after this week’s (August 25) edition of Friday Night SmackDown went off the air, following some touching tributes.

Friday’s show featured beautiful nods to the legacies of Hall of Famer Terry Funk and former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt, who both sadly passed away this week.

The show went off the air with Bray Wyatt’s lantern in the ring and fans chanting ‘thank you Bray’.

After the cameras stopped rolling, two dark matches took place just for the live audience.

In the first untelevised bout, Matt Riddle faced off against Solo Sikoa. In the second, Cody Rhodes was in action against former US Champion Austin Theory.

Following this bout, Rhodes addressed the crowd in Louisville, Kentucky, recalling his time in OVW in the state.

As stated by Michael Cole on commentary earlier in the night, both stars were dedicated to entertaining fans, so WWE chose to hold matches to entertain fans while also paying tribute to the late stars.

Former Wyatt Family members Braun Strowman and Erick Redbeard (Rowan) attended the show and were present for the 10 bell salute that opened the episode.

Following the show, Strowman and others revealed they got matching tattoos in memory of Bray Wyatt, which you can view right here.

WWE has added the following note to the item descriptions for Wyatt merch on the WWE Shop website:

In the wake of Bray Wyatt’s death, WWE will donate all net proceeds to support JoJo Offerman and his children.

On Thursday, August 24, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported:

I was given permission to reveal that earlier this year Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt) got COVID that exacerbated a heart issues.

There was a lot of positive progress towards a return and his recovery. Unfortunately today he suffered a heart attack and passed away.

Our thoughts and condolences continue to be with the families, friends, and anyone affected by the passings of Windham Rotunda and Terry Funk.
