AJ Styles has shared his thoughts on Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi at WWE WrestleMania 42 Sunday, Lesnar’s apparent retirement and Femi’s star potential going forward.
In what was both one of the most talked about matches both heading into WrestleMania 42 and coming out of the two-night event, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in just over five minutes in what appears to be Lesnar’s final match in WWE.
While there has been a lot of speculation regarding whether Lesnar’s apparent retirement after the loss is genuine or a part of a storyline, it certainly appears for now like it is the former, with WWE airing a video package in dedication to Brock’s career on Raw.
During the latest episode of The Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles shared his thoughts on Oba vs. Brock, with the WWE Hall of Famer paying tribute to “The Beast” for losing to his younger opponent on the way out.
Styles said:
“(The match was) Kind of pretty much what I thought it was going to be. If Brock has indeed retired, good for him man. I get it, I understand it.
“You know the crazy thing that most people don’t think about is John Cena, Brock and myself are all the same age right? So I get it, I understand it, your body’s breaking down at this point. No matter how great a shape or how much you’ve wrestled in the last couple years or whatever… You’re not gonna beat time man. Father time’s going to get you and you’re trying not to hurt yourself just to get to that last match.
“So, kudos to Brock for doing the job. Oba’s going to be a big star because of it. I think it’s a good thing.”

Styles would then heap further praise on Oba Femi for his humility behind closed doors, with “The Phenomenal One” excited about the Nigerian star’s potential:
“He’s a star. Everybody feels it… And he’s a good dude and he’s still humble. I hope that it’s everything that he thought it was going to be. I’m anxious to see what he does next.”

Oba Femi: WWE’s Next Big Thing
If it wasn’t evident long beforehand, Oba Femi’s five minute victory over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 has solidified “The Ruler” as one of, if not the, brightest star WWE has in its locker room.
Carrying every attribute a company could hope for in a ‘top guy’, Femi could win a world championship tonight and few would argue against the decision.
Modern era WWE has often been criticized for taking too long in pushing young talent, and right now the company has several major stars in waiting to pull the trigger on.
While the likes of Bron Breakker and Trick Williams are in the conversation, Femi has been dubbed the “Next Big Thing” and should, in-turn, be given a push that is reminiscent of the push Lesnar received during his maiden year in WWE back in 2002.
As was already teased by both men after WrestleMania 42, Femi stepping up and challenging World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2026 would be the perfect way to coronate “The Ruler” as the future and present of WWE.
