WWE Star Danhausen Thanks Stephanie McMahon & Paige For ‘Very Nice, Very Evil Words’ Of Praise WWE

WWE’s Danhausen has thanked Stephanie McMahon and the recently returning Paige for the words of praise they shared on McMahon’s podcast..

WrestleMania 42 saw the return of Paige to WWE as she became one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Brie Bella, over a year since she parted ways with AEW.

Night Two would see another former AEW star make an appearance, in the form of Danhausen, who debuted earlier this year at WWE Elimination Chamber in February, appearing in the ring with John Cena, after The Miz and Kit Wilson attempted to disrupt proceedings.

The subject of Danhausen would crop up during Paige’s appearance on What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon, in which both stars would share their praise, saying:

Paige: “I love that you brought Danhausen here. I love that guy… I’m glad that the fans came around really quickly.”

Stephanie: “I think they just didn’t know, at first, or why we were doing it… Because he’s really good, and he’s got this crazy charisma.”

Paige: “Only he can pull that kind of character off, too.”

Stephanie: “Yeah, that’s what I mean… and then to see him work, he was pretty good.”

Paige: “He’s a great worker, too. They’ll see eventually when he starts wrestling some more… I love that the fans came around and they love him and stuff because I was like, ‘He’s such a good dude. I love that guy.’”

Danhausen would react to the comments, revealing an offer to Paige and Stephanie McMahon, tweeting:

“Danhausen loves @StephMcMahon and @Saraya.

“Thank you for your very nice, very evil words.

“Let Danhausen know if you ever need anyone cursed!”

At the time of writing, neither Paige nor McMahon has taken Danhausen up on the offer of a curse.

The Rocky Start That Didn’t Become A Horror Show

When Danhausen was revealed as the occupant of the wooden crate that had been doing the rounds on Raw and SmackDown, it’s fair to say that the fans at Elimination Chamber didn’t raise the roof with their enthusiasm for the moment.

For fans of the work of Danhausen, it’s easy to look at what happened at the February 28 WWE premium live event with a sense of consternation as to how the reaction wasn’t bigger for a hugely popular star on the independent wrestling scene who brims with fun and creativity. That assumes that the same fans in the venue actually engage with, not just wrestling beyond WWE, but specifically are invested on some level in Danhausen.

Looking back at his AEW run, he was last seen in the Battle Royal that featured on Worlds End Zero Hour back in December 2023, with his last ROH match being in February the following year. He had fans in AEW, as he did on the independent scene, yet that shouldn’t be expected to translate into instant stardom in WWE.

In late 2024, it was reported that Danhausen was ‘frustrated‘ with his time in AEW, expressing that sentiment to Tony Khan, with seemingly no plans in place to use the star.

With an arguably lukewarm reaction to Danhausen in his WWE debut, it would have been easy to sideline the star once again, though this time, there have clearly been moves to allow him to entertain. His backstage interactions with stars such as Dominik Mysterio, The Miz, Kit Wilson and the streamer IShowSpeed have demonstrated the versatility of the character without detracting from whatever story is also being told with the stars in question.

The rocky start to his WWE career could have seen Danhausen follow in the footsteps of The Gobbledy Gooker from 1990, or a number of other short-lived ‘comedic’ gimmicks that have failed to find an audience, let alone the more serious stars who appeared with fanfare, only to fall by the wayside – Glacier or Mordecai, anyone? – through no fault of the stars.  As it stands, Danhausen has found a new fanbase in WWE, even if he only has one match (a victory over Kit Wilson on the April 10 episode of SmackDown) under his belt.

There’s no doubt going to be matches in Danhausen’s future, but for now, WWE has a star who brightens up the screen anytime that he appears.
