Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly was a guest on a recent edition of All Things Wrestling Radio, and among other things, discussed the infamous Brock Lesnar incident.
Of course, the incident I am referring to, is the one that took place on SmackDown in 2002, which resulted in Holly’s neck being broken.

The most widely accepted explanation for this event is that Holly “sandbagged” Lesnar, which irritated the ‘Next Big Thing’, who simply dropped the ‘Alabama Slamma’ on his neck.
In pro-wrestling, “sandbagging” is where a wrestler intentionally gives their opponent their full weight, as opposed to assisting them, usually in an attempt to make the wrestler doing the lifting look like they’re struggling.
Here is what Holly had to say regarding the incident, and his relationship with Lesnar:
“Things happen, and it just happened. The timing was off, and it wasn’t malicious, it wasn’t intended to happen, and Brock and I are good friends in and out of the ring,” said Holly. “So, we had a good working relationship. I enjoyed working with him. After it happened, he felt bad, and he called me after my surgery and he’d check on me periodically and see how I was doing. So, for these people that think they know what happened, they don’t.”
As a result of Holly’s broken neck, he was sidelined for over a year, returning at Survivor Series 2003, and unsuccessfully challenging Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2004.
Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly enjoyed a 16-year tenure in WWF/E, becoming a three-time World Tag Team Champion, and a six-time WWF Hardcore Champion.
Lesnar is the current WWE Universal Champion, and recently broke CM Punk’s record for being the longest reigning World Champion of the modern era, most recently defending his championship against Roman Reigns at Greatest Royal Rumble.
It is being heavily rumored that Lesnar will yet again defend his Universal Title against the ‘Big Dog’ at SummerSlam this coming August, despite reports suggesting the ‘Beast’ is not yet contractually scheduled for the event.
