WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has revealed what he told WWE fans who were chanting for CM Punk at Survivor Series 2023.
Punk made his WWE return after almost 10 years away at Survivor Series in Chicago after weeks of speculation.
Punk’s return had been speculated for months following his AEW termination on September 2, with the Chicago crowd chanting his name from the get go.
Punk’s return was kept as a surprise from not only the fans, but also those in the company, and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, who appeared on the Kick-Off show, has revealed what he told the Chicago crowd chanting for Punk on the show.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker said that he had no idea Punk was going to show up, and even told the fans that he wasn’t there.
He said:
“Of course, people were talking about, ‘do we think it’s going to happen? Is he here?’ For me, I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it. If he showed up, he showed up. If he didn’t, he didn’t.
“The contingency outside the Allstate Arena, it was ‘CM Punk, CM Punk,’ they were all about it. At one point, off the air, the fans were chanting ‘CM Punk,’ so loud, I turned around and said, ‘Guys, quiet down. Quiet down.’ Everyone got silent. I told them, ‘CM Punk is not here tonight.’ [laughs]. I started laughing like crazy. I didn’t know he was going to show up.”
Shawn Michaels has also commented on CM Punk’s return to the company, which you can see here.
An AEW star has reacted to Triple H bringing back CM Punk, calling it ‘great booking’.
