Major Change To Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler’s) First Post-WWE Championship Defence NJPW

A major change has been announced for Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler)’s first post-WWE championship defence in NJPW.

Nemeth captured his first title following his WWE release at NJPW’s New Beginning in Sapporo show, defeating David Finlay for the IWGP Global Championship.

Following his win, Nemeth’s first defence of the title was announced against NJPW president Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Tanahashi himself faced off against a released WWE star at New Beginning in Sapporo, when he lost the NJPW World Television Championship to Matt Riddle.

During the bout, Tanahashi sustained an ankle injury, and Tanahashi’s injury has now caused a major change to the planned match with Nemeth.

Per NJPW, Tanahashi’s injury is set to keep him out of action for the New Japan Cup series, as well as Sakura Genesis.

NJPW also announced that Tanahashi’s Global Championship match with Nemeth is set to be delayed.

Per NJPW’s website:

Following further examination on an ankle injury sustained at New Beginning in Sapporo, Hiroshi Tanahashi will be absent from the New Japan Cup series, as well as Sakura Genesis on April 6 to allow for a full recovery.

His previously announced IWGP Global Championship match will be delayed until a later date to be determined.

We apologise to fans looking forward to seeing Tanahashi wrestle and appreciate your understanding.
