Charlotte Flair Discusses Ric Flair’s Last Match Jim Crockett Promotions

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair has opened up about last year’s Ric Flair’s Last Match pay-per-view.

At the event Flair’s father, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, had his (nominally) last ever wrestling match, teaming up with son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to face Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal.

The match was heavily criticised due to the perceived dangers of allowing a 72-year-old man to compete in a professional wrestling match, as well as Ric Flair’s willingness to play on people’s fears that he could be seriously injured or worse.

Charlotte did not seem to share those fears, as speaking in an interview on The TODAY Show, the Queen of WWE expressed jealousy that she could not take her husband’s place:

“That was a long day. Honestly, I was a little jealous because I was like, ‘Oh, I want to be a part of this’. I’ve shared the ring with my dad, but not in that capacity.

“But then again my husband having the opportunity to be beside him, at the same time, I’m like, ‘Man, I wish my little brother could see this.’ Then my husband is a third-generation wrestler. It was awesome. Picture-perfect. But I mean my dad could have maybe just managed my husband, but it worked out [laughs].”

Charlotte was also asked whether her and her husband are ever competitive, working as they do for competing promotions:

“We’re competitive in the gym. But I help him with certain things, and he helps me with certain things, so it’s like the best of both worlds.

“He’s a luchador from Mexico, so the wrestling style is much different, where I’m all about performance and showmanship and the glamour of it. So we play off of each other really well.”

Ric Flair has recently re-stated that he has no intention to wrestle again.
