Date Confirmed For WWE Champion CM Punk Vs. Cody Rhodes

We now know when the highly anticipated match between Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes will take place.

Ever since Punk’s WWE return in 2023, there have been teases of a match between Punk and Rhodes, but those teases never led to the ultimate destination of a one on one match – until now.

This past Monday on Raw, with Cody Rhodes injured by GUNTHER, CM Punk made his comeback after being out since WrestleMania to replace Rhodes as Sami Zayn’s challenger for the Undisputed WWE Title.

Punk ended up winning that match and therefore becoming champion.

Having now officially been moved to the WWE SmackDown brand, Punk opened tonight’s episode of SmackDown and listed off some of the names in the locker room he could potentially defend his title against.

He named Sami Zayn, GUNTHER, Finn Balor, Royce Keys, Damian Priest and Trick Williams, before being interrupted by Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes and Punk came face to face and called back to the last time they were in the ring together, which was when Rhodes was WWE Champion and told Punk he could “just say when” he wants a title shot.

With the roles now reversed, Punk told Rhodes the same thing, to which Rhodes replied, ‘SummerSlam.’

Reinstated SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis was in the ring and signed off on the match being confirmed, so Punk vs Rhodes is now officially set for WWE SummerSlam on August 1 & 2.

Punk vs Rhodes joins Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins as originally planned WrestleMania 42 matches that are now taking place a few months later at SummerSlam instead.

Also on the card as things stand are Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan vs IYO SKY, Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell, and Penta defending the Intercontinental Title against the winner of a gauntlet match on this coming Monday’s Raw featuring Je’Von Evans, Chad Gable, Dragon Lee, Joe Hendry, Rusev, Ethan Page and Dominik Mysterio.
