WWE
On the June 29 edition of Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins confronted Roman Reigns and challenged him to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam 2026.
Bringing up their history together over the past 14 years, Rollins explained why this match is so important and why Roman must take this match to solidify his legacy by finally beating his rival when it matters most.
This should lead to WWE having some significant plans and ideas in place to make this match pay off from all the hype heading into Minneapolis.
Here are six potential plans for Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins at WWE SummerSlam 2026.
6. Headlines The Second Night Of SummerSlam 2026
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins took center stage to close the June 29 episode of Monday Night Raw.
After going over their 14-year run with WWE and how they have been closely tied to one another, Rollins convinced Reigns to accept his challenge by bringing up his history of beating his former Shield brethren on the biggest stages.
With both men being top stars and two of the most era-defining names in WWE over the past two decades, this should definitely headline SummerSlam 2026.
Considering Brock Lesnar will face Oba Femi in Hell In A Cell and a potential Undisputed WWE Championship match, Rollins vs Reigns getting the headline spot on SummerSlam 2026 night two would show just how big this match is to the company.
5. No Holds Barred Match
Adding to what should be a massive match on the WWE SummerSlam 2026 card, the company may need to add a stipulation to Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins.
In the past, Rollins and Reigns have both shined in No DQ style matches and could do the same against one another.
Throwing out the rulebook completely, Reigns could face Rollins in a No Holds Barred match that would be chaotic.
Recapturing the magic that made The Shield first stand out, it seems appropriate for Roman and Seth to go all out in a No Holds Barred match to close WWE SummerSlam 2026.
4. Last Man Standing Match
On a similar note, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins both have history in Last Man Standing matches.
‘The OTC’ has beaten the likes of Brock Lesnar and Big Show, while Rollins had a win over Shinsuke Nakamura in 2023.
With all the animosity between the two stemming from Seth’s original betrayal of The Shield in 2014, it feels logical to make this World Heavyweight Championship bout a Last Man Standing match to see both men beat the hell out of each other.
Wanting to cap off SummerSlam 2026 weekend on the strongest note possible, Reigns vs Rollins Last Man Standing would be a perfect option to culminate all their years of conflict.
3. Loser Leaves WWE
During the promo to set up their SummerSlam 2026 showdown on the June 29 WWE Raw, Seth Rollins teased that this next match could be the final one between the former Shield brethren.
While Rollins was referencing all the young stars rising the ranks and trying to take their spots, ‘The Visionary’ could be indicating a new stipulation to this World Heavyweight Championship match.
Considering everything that they have been through, it might be realistic to say WWE isn’t big enough for both Roman and Seth anymore.
Reigns vs Rollins Loser Leaves WWE is an excellent way to up the ante and make this a high stakes bout that has the fans fully invested in Minneapolis.
2. Paul Heyman Special Guest Referee
Back at WWE WrestleMania 41, Seth Rollins defeated Roman Reigns and CM Punk thanks to Paul Heyman turning his back on his two former clients for ‘The Visionary.’
However, Heyman soon betrayed Rollins as well when he aligned himself with Bron Breakker and The Vision.
Now, both Reigns and Rollins are at odds with Heyman, which makes him an ideal choice to be a special guest referee for this World Heavyweight Championship match.
Heyman getting in the middle of Reigns and Rollins could lead to a compelling battle that causes plenty of drama at WWE SummerSlam 2026.
1. Three Stages Of Hell
Three Stages of Hell is one of the more protected stipulations in all of WWE today.
Back in 2001, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H had one of the most intense and hate-filled rivalries WWE had ever seen, so they settled the score in Three Stages of Hell at No Way Out.
Over the years, this three-match stipulation-filled bout has seen further escalation of violence and danger for everyone involved.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins can finally put their differences behind them after this WWE SummerSlam 2026 battle on August 1 or 2.
