How WWE stars have used social media has always been very interesting. Some appear to be given more leeway in how they present themselves, while others use it to hype up kayfabe feuds in a wooden manner.
Now, we have a bit of insight into how WWE instructs their stars to use social media. Fightful Select (subscription required) released a report detailing WWE’s use of Twitter in particular.
First, when given a promotional campaign for a product, WWE would ask their stars to tweet about it. However, they would not be given exact things to say. Rather, WWE would allow them to compose the tweet themselves and simply used a link provided.
On the other hand, if Twitter is being used to promote a television angle, WWE will provide more detailed instructions. The idea is to control what is said so they can make it work with their other social media accounts.
Clearly the use of Twitter, in particular, has worked to the benefit of a few people. Becky Lynch and Tommaso Ciampa would both commended for their use of Twitter to further their characters and engage with fans. However, many WWE stars haven’t been as fortunate.
