A former WWE star has recalled a scary head injury incident during a match on Monday Night Raw last year.
Back in April, one week following WrestleMania 42, over 20 superstars were released from their WWE contracts, including former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Zoey Serrano (formerly Zoey Stark).
At the time of her departure, Serrano was out of action with a serious knee injury which occurred back in May 2025 during a three-way with Rhea Ripley and Kairi Sane on Raw. Stark’s injury occurred when she delivered a springboard missile dropkick on Kairi, however, the Japanese star was not in the correct position and she landed awkwardly.
Just four months prior to her own injury, that same move unfortunately also led to Dakota Kai suffering a concussion during a tag team match between Serrano and Shayna Baszler and Damage CTRL (IYO SKY & Dakota Kai) on the January 20, 2025 episode of Raw.
Speaking during a Twitter Q&A, Serrano expressed remorse over the incident and explained what went wrong:
“First off I never purposely hurt someone but it sadly has happened once or twice. We’ve seen the video where I accidentally broke Kacy Catanzaro’s nose. Boy do I still feel really really bad about that one. The other one I feel really, incredibly bad about is when I was wrestling Dakota Kai – it was me and Shayna (Baszler) versus Dakota and I want to say it was IYO (SKY).
“Shayna had her, we do a blind tag, Dakota is hitting the ropes for a drop down and here I come out of nowhere big missile dropkick. As I hit that missile dropkick I don’t hit her in the head – I’d never do that – I always hit people in the chest. But the force of her jumping and me coming into her and that collision caused her to fall back and really hit her head really bad. And she lost memory and she couldn’t remember where she was at.
She was a trooper though because I kept asking if she was ok and she was like ‘I’m fine, just finish the match.’ I don’t know if muscle memory kicked in or what but we finish the match no problem and got to the back and she couldn’t remember a thing. That one I feel awful about too.”

While the aforementioned May 2025 three-way was the last time Serrano got the chance to compete in WWE, she has since returned to action on the independent scene after her 90-day non-compete period expired in July.
Serrano even teamed up with former WWE tag partner Shayna Baszler at RevPro’s event in Coventry, England on July 26.
Dakota Kai is also currently a free agent after being released by WWE in May 2025 and competes under the name Charlie – something she has teased changing in the future.
