Some news has emerged on the story behind Sami Zayn winning the Undisputed WWE Championship and the potential main event for Crown Jewel.

Zayn became a two-time WWE Champion this past Friday when he won the title from CM Punk on SmackDown in Mexico City.

Zayn’s first reign with the title earlier this year only lasted nine days before Punk won the championship from him, but it looks like he’ll be getting a longer run the second time around.

Notably, the upcoming WWE premium live event Crown Jewel, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 7, already looks like a big night for Zayn.

Over the past few years, WWE has established a tradition with Crown Jewel where the men’s and women’s Crown Jewel Champions are crowned – with Raw’s World Champions facing SmackDown’s WWE Champions.

As things stand right now, that would make the 2026 men’s Crown Jewel Championship match Sami Zayn vs Roman Reigns, with Zayn as WWE Champion and Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion.

As reported by PWInsider today, that’s exactly why the decision was made for Zayn to win the title from Punk.

The belief is that WWE is “seeking” to headline Crown Jewel with that very Zayn vs Reigns matchup.

Zayn and Reigns have plenty of history over the past few years, with Zayn having been a major part of the peak of the Bloodline story, including a memorable match between the two that main evented Elimination Chamber 2023 in Zayn’s hometown of Montreal.

Who should become 2026 men’s WWE Crown Jewel Champion?

With Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn seemingly set to collide at WWE Crown Jewel, the big question is, which of them should come out as Crown Jewel Champion?

Ultimately, it depends on how serious of a champion WWE wants to present Zayn as – if the company wants to make a real go of him as a true top level main event star, then a win against Reigns could do him a whole lot of good, especially with how popular Zayn will be in Saudi Arabia on that particular night.

However, if WWE doesn’t have a grand plan to put Zayn onto that very top level, Reigns is the most likely winner, especially since the big story of 2027 should be Oba Femi overcoming Reigns to become World Champion.

If Zayn was to beat Reigns, it wouldn’t mean as much for Femi to do the same, so if that’s the long-term gameplan, Reigns probably shouldn’t lose until that loss to Femi.
