Top WWE Star Credits NXT UK For His Growth In The Company WWE

A top WWE star has credited NXT UK for his growth in the company.

In 2019, GUNTHER arrived in WWE on the NXT UK brand. The former WALTER quickly became the top heel of the UK brand and went on to defeat Pete Dunne to win the NXT UK Championship a few months later.

For 870 days, GUNTHER became one of the longest reigning champions of the modern era and beat a litany of stars, such as Tyler Bate, Joe Coffey and Ilja Dragunov.

In a new interview with Kick Rocks, the current Intercontinental Champion reflected on his time in NXT UK. He said:

“I think it was a good time for me to figure out myself even more and grow into myself,”

Reflecting on his most famous rival from his time on the brand, Ilja Dragunov and their memorable bout during the pandemic, GUNTHER stated:

“I think that match with Ilja I had, the first one, I’m not sure if it would’ve gotten that popular if it didn’t happen in an empty arena without any background noise and the noise that audience makes.”

“I think the surroundings of that match made it that much special.”

Admitting that it was a challenge to compete during the pandemic when there were no fans, “The Ring General” said:

“That was a very important time for me, personally to develop myself even more,”

“I think there was a time then after that where I felt like I outgrew it a little bit then it took a little bit until I arrived on the main roster and since then I’m continuing what I did before.”

As previously reported, GUNTHER showed no interest in a potential title unification match against World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

The Imperium leader is currently embroiled in a rivalry with Matt Riddle on the Raw brand.
