Jay White NJPW Status Update Amid WWE Speculation AEW

An update has emerged on Jay White’s NJPW status, amid speculation that he will soon leave the promotion.

White notably dropped his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

The next night at New Year’s Dash, White issued a challenge to Hikuleo for a Loser Leaves Japan bout.

This fuelled speculation that White is on his way out of NJPW. There have been rumors swirling that White will show up at WWE Royal Rumble on January 28.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), White is booked for NJPW shows after January 28, indicating that he won’t be a free agent in time for Royal Rumble 2023, at least.

WWE is reportedly interested in several NJPW stars, including White’s future ‘Loser Leaves Japan’ opponent Hikuleo.

The company is reportedly also keeping an eye on Tama Tonga, who notably defeated WWE’s Karl Anderson for the NEVER Openweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

NJPW President Takami Ohbari has announced a major update for the company’s presence in the US, confirming that the ‘STRONG’ brand will be rebuilt.
