Kenny Omega Talks AEW Games Release Date, Takes Shots At WWE 2K20?

Following Dynamite last night on the AEW Games YouTube channel, Kenny Omega and Kip Sabian posted a video answering the most asked fan questions following the initial AEW Games announcement a few months ago.

Omega couldn’t reveal a release date, but said he hopes the game will be out by the end of 2021. He also said it’s important not to rush these games while potentially taking some shots at WWE for the infamous 2k20 game:

“Oh boy, would I love to give you guys a release date, but here’s the thing. There are a lot of inner workings that happen when you go to release a game, when you build a game, when you design a game, and we’ve kinda made a lot of promises and we really want this game to be not only fun –  we want this game to last for a long time. We wanna make this game legendary, much like this game right here, you’ve probably hear of it before, No Mercy. And to do that, it takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of effort, and it takes a lot of thinking outside of the box. And as you know, sometimes when games are rushed, they encounter a lot of bugs. They become almost unplayable. Then they become a meme themselves. We don’t want that. We want people to have fun with this thing, we want people to be competitive with this thing. So right now what we’re doing is we’re talking to a lot of the best developers, producers, everyone that can help us get this thing off the ground and released as a complete, playable, unbroken package. So can I give you guys a date just yet? No. But rest assured, the beginning blocks of what we’ve created is feeling really good. I’ve actually gotten my hands on it for a short period of time. It feels a little like this thing right here (holds up No Mercy cartridge). So can we give you guys a date? No. We’re hoping maybe next year, maybe the year after that. But trust me when I say, we’re gonna update you guys the entire way and when we get a date, you guys will be the first to know. I’ll be the actual first to know, but then I’ll relay the information.”

Kenny Omega said that the game will feature a ‘Create a Wrestler’ feature, and options for cross-play are being explored. He explained that the game will be “not quite simulation and not quite arcade – it’s gonna be a speedier version of realistic wrestling”.

While Kenny might not have been able to give a release date for the AEW console game, he was able to reveal that the Casino Game will be available within the next 60 days, meaning the game will be out by March 7, 2021:

“I don’t have a date. I don’t have a concrete date. But what if I told you guys… you can get your hands on this game… in 60 days or less. So, you might get it tomorrow, you might get it in 59 days. But it’s gonna be 60 or less.”
