Major Potential Opponent Not Currently Planned For Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40

Major Potential Opponent Not Currently Planned For Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40 WWE

A new report has revealed that a major potential opponent for Roman Reigns is not currently planned for WrestleMania 40.

On the September 15 edition of SmackDown, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his return to the WWE for the first time since 2019. This led many fans to start speculating about the possibility of “The Great One” having another match.

Prior to his WWE return, Johnson admitted on the Pat McAfee Show that there were discussions about a potential showdown with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns before talks fell through.

However, it now seems like there aren’t any new discussions for a possible Rock vs. Roman match for next year’s WrestleMania 40 following his shocking return.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, there are currently no plans for Roman Reigns to face The Rock at WrestleMania 40 next April.

Multiple sources close to WWE stated that the decision about the WrestleMania 40 main event will not be The Rock’s to make, nor is the main event even a topic of substance. The report notes that even if the match was offered, it would not be a certainty that Johnson would even accept.

The Rock hasn’t competed in a full WWE match since 2013 when he was defeated by John Cena for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 29.

WrestleTalk will provide further updates on The Rock’s return and who Roman Reigns will face at WrestleMania 40 when they become available.
