WWE Hall Of Famer Says WWE Are ‘Fooling Themselves’ If They Claim AEW Isn’t Competition WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has said that WWE is “fooling” itself if it does not admit that AEW is competition.

Foley is a three-time WWE Champion, and eight-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and was inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame in 2013. Nevertheless, he has been rather outspoken about the direction of the company in recent years, especially under the old regime.

The launch of All Elite Wrestling back in 2019 gave a true alternative to those fans that were seeking new content after being critical of the old WWE regime, but WWE has still rarely acknowledged AEW as direct competition to their empire.

Foley appears to heavily disagree, as on the latest episode of his podcast Foley is Pod, the former Dude Love spoke about how he wants what is best for the talent, and WWE having competition is best for them, even stating that WWE are ‘fooling themselves’ if they don’t see AEW as competition.

He said:

“When people say ‘are you your WWE loyalist?’ I said, first and foremost, I’m for the boys. And when I say boys, I mean collectively, the men and the women I want what’s best for the talent and ultimately, I do believe that what’s best for the talent is best for the company.

“So, I love WWE, but I love the fact that there’s a strong competition. If they’re claiming it’s not competition, they’re fooling themselves.”

Foley knows a lot about companies that have considered themselves competition for WWE in the past, appearing variously in ECW, WCW, Ring of Honor and TNA during his career.

Foley recently recalled contacting Tony Khan with a pitch he made for Thunder Rosa.
