‘It Was Mid-Card Money’ – DDP Reveals Karrion Kross WWE Contract Re-Signing Offer Details

Jamie has been covering the world of wrestling for four years and currently holds the position of Assistant Editor of WrestleTalk.com. During his time working for WrestleTalk.com he has written and published over 4,000 news and feature articles covering events and happenings from WWE, AEW, TNA and a variety of international and independent wrestling promotions.

DDP has revealed details of WWE’s contract offer to Karrion Kross (Killer Kross) before his exit from the company in August 2025.

It has now been eight months since the last WWE appearance of Karrion Kross and his wife Scarlett, with the pair exiting the company at the end of their contracts shortly after Kross’ match with Sami Zayn at SummerSlam 2025.

Kross’ popularity with the fans organically increased over time in his second spell with WWE, and it seemed logical that the company would capitalize on this and give both he and Scarlett new contracts. This was not to be however, as the husband and wife pairing exited WWE without new terms being agreed.

In an interview with Das Hohe Bein, WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page was asked which modern stars remind him of the “old spirit” of wrestling from years gone by, to which DDP named Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross, two stars DDP “couldn’t believe” WWE let go:

“Guys who would be incredibly over… Who would have found their spot? Drew McIntyre. There’s a guy with a crazy work ethic and it’s hard to see through his s**t. They let him go and I don’t understand why.

“Karrion Kross, Killer Kross, that guy, he’s got it all. The look, the rap, the promo. The s**t he did at the end, I just couldn’t believe they let him leave.”

Discussing Kross’ WWE exit, DDP revealed what Kross had told him about WWE’s attempt to re-sign him before his departure:

“Everybody thought it was a work but he told me that they had offered him more money but it was kind of like mid-card money. F**k that, he believed in himself. He’s making more money than he’s ever made right now.

“And on top of that, he’s a bad motherf**ker. If he decides no you’re not winning. You’re not winning. I believe he’s a brown or a black belt in jiu-jitsu. He’s such a cool dude. I feel the same way about Drew McIntyre.”

Aleister Black Filling Karrion Kross Role On WWE TV

While Karrion Kross and Scarlett have returned to the independent scene, WWE have filled the void by utilizing a different husband and wife pairing in a similar role.

One of the reasons for Kross’ boost in popularity was his character, which acted as a devil on the shoulder of WWE stars, starring them to embrace their dark side.

Kross’ involvement preceded the heel turns of the likes of The New Day and Shinsuke Nakamura, with his final storyline in WWE being him unsuccessfully attempting to get Sami Zayn to change his character.

Aleister Black and Zelina are now working in a similar way behind the scenes, with their biggest success story thus far being Randy Orton, who has now embraced the “voices” in his head once again, weeks after Black implored him to do so.

While the role fits Black and Zelina well, it’s almost too similar to what Kross and Scarlett were doing before their WWE exits and comparisons between the two will continue unless WWE takes a different approach.
