New Update On Potential Edge AEW Debut Ahead Of WrestleDream

UPDATE: In the Wrestling Observer Daily Update ahead of AEW WrestleDream, Dave Meltzer wrote:

“I will say that people in WWE would not be surprised to see Edge in AEW and there has been talk about it for months. But there has been nothing confirmed.”

WWE Hall of Famer Edge is believed to now be a free agent, with his WWE contract said to have expired on September 30.

With Edge now a free agent, there has been a lot of speculation about him potentially heading to AEW, potentially as soon as tonight’s AEW WrestleDream event in Seattle.

In an update from Fightful Select, “tons of talent within AEW and WWE” believed Edge would be joining AEW when his WWE deal came to an end, with some AEW talent hearing he’d be coming in as far back as mid-August, even before the final match on his WWE contract against Sheamus had taken place.

Fightful also notes that, as recently as this past week, a veteran WWE talent said it was a “lock” that Edge was going to AEW.

As it currently stands, Edge has been removed from all internal WWE rosters, but remains up on the WWE.com roster page, which sometimes isn’t updated promptly as soon as someone leaves. He was also removed from the SmackDown intro video two nights ago.

One big question surrounding Edge potentially showing up in AEW is in regards to what his theme song would be, as one source that Fightful spoke to does not believe that WWE owns exclusive rights to Metalingus, as it appears on Alter Bridge’s One Day Remains album.

It is possible that WWE could have reached exclusive rights for the song, though they likely never felt that necessary.

The iconic ‘You Think You Know Me’ sting in the song did originate in WWE, but a new version could always be recorded and used in AEW.

WWE also no longer has a license to Rob Zombie’s ‘Never Gonna Stop’, which he used for many years in the 2000’s.

One source with knowledge of the situation said that they believe that if Edge wanted to use almost any Alter Bridge song, “they’d probably all work to make it happen”.

WWE does own the Edge ring name, so he would be unable to use that should he show up in AEW.
