Nick Aldis WWE Future Major Update After SummerSlam Match

There has been a major update on the WWE future of Nick Aldis following his match at SummerSlam 2026 night one against GUNTHER.

In what was Aldis’ first ever match in WWE, GUNTHER emerged victorious despite a strong showing from Aldis that drew multiple “you’ve still got it” chants from the crowd.

The former TNA and NWA World Heavyweight Champion had been WWE SmackDown General Manager for the past three years, but gave up that role temporarily to have the match tonight.

During the official SummerSlam post-show, Nick Aldis was shown being approached by Triple H, which led to confirmation of what Aldis’ future holds.

Aldis handed a letter of resignation to Triple H, stepping down from the SmackDown General Manager position and seemingly WWE as a whole after losing tonight.

However, HHH’s response was to tear up the letter and officially reinstate Aldis to the GM position, so it looks like he won’t be returning to the ring full-time and he’ll be back to that role going forward.

In the press conference later, Triple H stated “never say never,” so we’ll see if Aldis ends up back in the ring again at some point, but it doesn’t seem like an imminent direction.

WWE’s Nick Aldis Dilemma

Nick Aldis showed during his match against GUNTHER that he is more than still equipped to go in the ring, and he did not look out of place on the card tonight at all.

However, Aldis has also been an incredibly good SmackDown General Manager over the past few years, and WWE would be losing out if they were to replace him in that position.

It’s an issue that the likes of Sami Zayn, Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser have had in the past – they’re so good in the roles that they were in, it would be a loss to take them out of that position even to move them on to something bigger.

Aldis has made it very clear that he has wanted to wrestle so it doesn’t look like something he’d be against if the opportunity comes up again in the future.
