Nixed Pitch For Huge Kenny Omega Match Revealed

Nixed Pitch For Huge Kenny Omega Match Revealed AEW

Chris Jericho has revealed that he pitched a huge match for the AEW Dynamite taping in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada earlier this year.

During the March 15 edition of Dynamite, the House of Black defended its AEW Trios Championship in a three-way trios match against The Elite and the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Speaking on Talk is Jericho, Chris Jericho revealed that he originally pitched for him to face Kenny Omega in singles action on this show.

Explaining why the bout couldn’t happen at the time, Jericho stated:

“We went to Winnipeg, Manitoba, I pitched Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho. Couldn’t get the match, you know why? Trios.

“Me, Danny, and Sammy had to beat his stupid ass, but still. No singles match, ‘Kenny is in a trio.’ What are you talking about? This is Kenny Omega.”

Omega and Jericho first faced off in singles action at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12 in 2018, with Omega defeating Jericho to retain his IWGP US Title in a match which many consider to be a precursor for AEW.

The duo faced off again at Double or Nothing 2019, with Jericho pinning Omega to earn his way into the first ever AEW World Title match at that year’s All Out pay-per-view, which he ultimately won.

While Jericho and Omega have met in the ring since, they have yet to wrestle a third singles bout.

Omega currently wrestles both as part of the Elite, and as a singles star, with Omega set to defend his IWGP US Championship against Will Ospreay at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.
