Five titles changed hands during NJPW Dominion, with an AEW star losing their championship in a three-way match.

Dominion was a very eventful show, with NJPW hosting nine matches in Osaka-jo Hall on Sunday, June 14.

The first title change saw Aaron Wolf defeat Ren Narita to win the NEVER Openweight Championship. This marked the beginning of Wolf’s second reign with the gold, following the 2020 Olympic gold medalist judoka making his pro-wrestling debut at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January.

The next championship to change hands was the IWGP Tag Team Championship, which saw Great-O-Khan and HENARE dethrone OSKAR and Yuto-Ice.

AEW star Andrade El Idolo was the next champion to lose his gold, coming up short in a three-way bout while defending the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against Shota Umino and Drilla Moloney.

Umino pinned Andrade after 16 minutes of action to become IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.

The Best of the Super Juniors 33 tournament winner’s momentum continued, with YOH defeating DOUKI to take home the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title.

Finally, a major title change took place in the show’s main event, with Yota Tsuji defeating Callum Newman to win back the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Tsuji had lost the gold to Newman at Sakura Genesis in April, at which time Newman became the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Championship in NJPW history.

Many title changes on the same show like this can feel exciting, with it almost feeling like a soft reboot of the product.

NJPW wisely avoided having all of these title changes feeling the same by having them come in different points in various stories. Yota Tsuji was seeking redemption following his previous loss, for example, while YOH was finally able to reach the top of the junior heavyweight singles division for the first time.

While AEW’s Andrade El Idolo dropped his NJPW gold, this does not mark the end of the relationship between the two companies.

It has now been confirmed that both Konosuke Takeshita and Gabe Kidd will represent AEW in the G1 Climax tournament, which will begin on July 11.

This also comes after Nick Wayne’s involvement in the recent Best of the Super Juniors tournament, which saw him earn 10 points in block action.
