A top NJPW star has revealed his disappointment that rising AEW star Jungle Boy Jack Perry is getting a chance at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA spoke of his open challenge for June 25 being answered by Jack Perry, however, he did not seem too thrilled with the prospect of facing the 25-year-old.
SANADA said: (translation courtesy of @CiaranRH93)
“I have no knowledge of Jack Perry. It’s sad to see someone like that challenge for the IWGP. Is an open challenge really that easy to decide?”
SANADA then stated his belief that the IWGP Championship was worth more than the AEW Championship and should be treated as such, saying:
“It’s the IWGP, I think it’s worth more than the AEW Championship.”
The AEW World Championship on the other hand will be defended by MJF against eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, as MJF officially accepted the challenge on this week’s Dynamite (June 21).
MJF was effectively goaded into doing so by Adam Cole, but MJF seemingly got the last laugh on Cole as a new spoiler from Rampage saw the AEW Champion set up Cole’s Forbidden Door opponent.
